Surgery trainees in the generality phase of specialised training are eligible to take the Membership Examination of the Surgical Royal Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland (the MRCS). The MRCS exam is a significant turning point in a surgical career because it establishes if a surgical trainee has the necessary understanding, aptitude and qualities to finish basic training and advance to higher levels of specialist surgical training.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland all share the MRCS test, which is intercollegiate.
